New!  Students who earn 2 or less wrong on their spelling and reading tests no longer have to get them signed.  You may keep the reading test at home.  The spelling test booklet can be shown to you, if they choose and then brought back to school for the next test.

Spelling and Reading Tests

Hello families!

Your child took their spelling and reading test on Thursday.  They will be bringing home their spelling tests to be signed tonight.  I will be printing off their reading tests for you by Friday (hopefully earlier!).  Normally, students will be able to print the results of their reading test immediately after they take it but the printer was not hooked up and ready to go for us on Thursday.  Please be patient for these tests, as I have to print out all 50 individually so it may take some time.  I'm going to do my best to have them to you as soon as possible!

Thanks!
Mrs. S :)

Bring Your Own Devices

Hello all!
I know that students are very excited to "bring their own devices" to school!  However, we are not quite ready for that yet.  Teachers are still talking about expectations for those devices and what types of devices will be allowed.  I will post as soon as a decision is made.
Thanks!

Weekend Homework...

Hello everyone!  I just wanted to give you a heads up that a few kiddos forgot to bring their folders with them to my class today.  So they will have a short assignment to do for homework tonight.  It should only take a few minutes.

Thanks! :)

Homework Policy

The first question I received from your children today was.... How much homework do you give?  So I think it's important that I share my philosophy on homework with you.  I believe that students spend an enormous amount of time at school and that time should be utilized wisely.  I believe that spending time with family, playing outside and socializing with friends is extremely important.  With that said, I do not give homework on a regular basis.  If a child is struggling with something, I will send extra homework for practice.  If a child doesn't finish their classwork, I will send it home.  I told the kids today that reading at home is excellent and studying spelling words will help ensure that they learn new words.  We will be doing lots of both at school.  I will not "require" that it be done at home unless I see a need for extra practice.  However, you will see homework in math from Mrs. Shellenberger.  The math program provides homelinks that review what students learn in class.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks!
Mrs. Smith :)

Usually, spelling tests will be on Friday's. Because of the two short weeks, and because I will be out of town for my sister's wedding on Sept 11th, the first spelling test will be on Sept. 10th.
