TEST UPDATE

Good morning everyone!

As you know, students are to bring tests home on Friday to get signed and brought back to school if they get more than 2 wrong.  However, over the last few weeks, I have spent much of my time trying to get students to bring their tests back signed and keeping track or who did and who didn't.  I don't like to take recess from them so basically, I don't have any way to reinforce the importance of parents seeing tests.

With that said, I am no longer going to require students to get their tests signed and brought back to school.  Please look for their tests to come home each Friday so that you are aware of how your child is doing in reading/writing.  I don't want grades to be a surprise at report card time.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks!

Mindy Smith :)

Spelling and Reading Tests-Update

Reminder: Students took their Unit 2 Week 1 Spelling and Reading Tests today.  If they got more than 2 incorrect, they will be bringing it home to get signed.

Starting next week, we are going to try something new.  Students are going to take the Reading Test on paper.  While I really like administering it online, allowing students to take the test on paper will let them go back and highlight/circle answers.  While they can go back and reread on the computer, I'm wondering if the opportunity to use a highlighter and pencil to go back and find answers will be more beneficial to students.  I polled the kids today and half wanted to do it on paper and half wanted to do it on the computer.  I'm going to check the scores over the next few weeks and make a decision going forward depending on the results.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,
Mindy :)

Benchmark Test

Students will be bringing home their benchmark test today to get signed.  Please sign it and send it back.  On the front of the test, you will see notes from me regarding scores.  This is what they stand for:

Literary Elements-out of 9 points
Cause and Effect-out of 5 points
Compare and Contrast-out of 1 point
Sequencing-out of 3 points

The open-ended response was worth 4 points towards compare and contrast.  The question was: Think about what Ichiro and Daedalus did in the two stories you read.  In what ways do the two characters act similarly?  Use details or examples from both stories to explain your answers.

Students should have shared 2 ways that the characters acted similarly and should have provided an example for each.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hello everyone!  I hope that you all enjoyed your long weekend!

This week is a review week.  Students will have a benchmark test on Friday on all of the reading skills that we've practiced over the last 5 weeks.  In addition, there will be a spelling test on all of the regular spelling words over the last 5 weeks.

Looking forward to a fun week!

Class Meeting

Today during our class, we talked about being responsible. Students should be getting their spelling and reading tests signed on Friday nights if they get more than 2 questions/words incorrect. If you aren't seeing your child's tests, please ask them about them!

Reading and Spelling Tests

Reading and spelling tests are coming home today!  From this point on, I will do my best to send them home on Friday's, pending I have enough time to grade them, print them and enter the data.

Students were told that they only have to bring them back to school signed if they get more than 2 wrong on their test.  (this is true for both reading and spelling tests) This eliminates the amount of paperwork that is coming in to me on Monday's. :)

Thanks!
Mrs. S :)

Amazing Elaborative Detailed Snapshots!

As  I walk into the park, I see the colossal 213 foot Skyrush with it's giant, yellow hump taking the frightened passengers on a heart-beating experience.  Just seeing their faces in line makes me horrified of what's coming up.

By Isaac

As I gazed at the tall wooden Lightening Racer roller coaster glaring down at me, I thought alternating between years to go on this crazy roller coaster wouldn't hide me from the wild adventure I was about to go on.  Butterflies fluttered around my stomach as I gazed at Hersheypark's shiny white fence.  I summoned my courage, took a deep breath and stepped inside one of Hershey's greatest attractions.

By Abha

I walked through the gate and around the amusement park.  The thing that caught my eye was a Jamaican banana.  I wanted him more than ever but to win him I had to make two balls in a bowl.  Two balls cost four dollars.  I knew at that game, I was going to be broke.
